  • Well done to Ali and Ben

    17 February 2012

A huge thank you to Ali McLeod and Ben Simmons, two students at the University of Edinburgh, who raised just over £500 for PiggyBankKids by travelling from Edinburgh to Paris last weekend - without spending a penny!

Ali, pictured with kind engineer Dave who picked them up in Carlisle, and Ben made it all the way from the Scottish capital to the French in 33 hours, putting them in fifth place in the annual Race2Paris. By all accounts they had some real adventures on the way too!

A fantastic effort and a huge amount of money raised. Well done Ali and Ben!

Find out how they're getting on at Sarah's blog, here.

  • Good luck Sarah!

We'd like to wish Dr Sarah Stock the very best of luck for a fellowship she is taking up in March at the University of Western Australia, in Perth. Sarah will be building on the work she undertook during her time at the Jennifer Brown Research Laboratory, where she was investigating infections that can cause preterm labour.

In Perth, she will be looking at new techniques in the production of antimicrobial peptides which can help protect against these infections. Sarah will also be part of an international study on the genetics of preterm labour, which may allow those at risk of preterm labour be indentified, and for targeted therapies to be developed.

We look forward to hearing how the research progresses. Good luck Sarah!
